I’m busy putting the finishing touches on Das Wunder der Heliane (Korngold) which will have its U.S. Premiere in August at the Bard Music Festival (‘SummerScape’) under the baton of Maestro Leon Botstein. The cast will star several colleagues/friends of mine, including Daniel Brenna (my favorite Siegfried), Nathan Berg (one of my favorite Alberich’s), and Richard Troxell, among others. The ever excellent Alfred Walker will also be a prominent force in this overall fine cast, and it will be directed by Christian Räth, with whom I have worked on many projects. Others I will meet for the first time, soon.
Annandale-on-Hudson, where the Bard Music Festival takes place (on the campus of Bard College), is one of the most beautiful spots in North America, and surely among the most picturesque in all of Upstate New York. It’s historic Montgomery Place Estate has always been considered the envy of the discerning, while the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts has made it’s own mark as a top-notch performance hall designed by Frank Gehry.
This will be my second U.S. Premiere in 2019, and my debut at this most well regarded of summer music festivals. Therefore, it will not take much to get me into a New York State-of-Mind…but in this particular case, that state of mind is thoroughly “Upstate”, in the magnificent Hudson Valley.
Hope to see you there!!
